        The Problem with Pride

I’ve seen it all too often.  Sometime we get so

full of ourselves that we sometimes allow pride

to get in the way of reaching out to others.

We lift ourselves up and look down at those are

not smarter, funnier, wiser, etc.  Even other

Christians who are strong in their faith can fill

up with pride.  They can become insensitive and

uncaring to people they are suppose to reach out to.  Pride can corrupt them and they can lose love for their neighbors.

Jesus put His Father’s will before his own desires.  He ate with despised and rejected people.  The toughest people for Jesus to reach were those who had a strong religious background.  Philippians 2:3-81 warns us about dealing with pride.

“Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.  Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.  Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.  And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”

Next time someone is reaching out to you, take the time to put on humility.  Let your compassion and love shine  . Shut off feelings of being too superior and prideful to take the time to listen.  Let Jesus be the example we should all be.
